Tax update · From 6 April 2026

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax: who is affected and when

Making Tax Digital now reaches Income Tax. From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 need to keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC using compatible software. The threshold falls to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028.

Tax update · From 1 April 2024

The VAT registration threshold is now £90,000

The VAT registration threshold rose from £85,000 to £90,000 of taxable turnover. Every VAT-registered business must also follow Making Tax Digital for VAT, keeping digital records and filing returns through compatible software.
